INSECURITY: BISHOP MAMZA SUES FOR UNITY AMONG PEOPLE TO SALVAGE NIGERIA
2021, May 24

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Dami Mamza has called on all Nigerians to embrace peace in order to solve the insecurity and other challenges threatening the unity and peace of Nigeria.

Bishop Dami Mamza, who doubles as the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa state chapter, made the during his homily on Pentecost Sunday Mass, May 23 at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, jimeta.

The Chief Shepherd of the Catholic faithful in Yola advocated that roundtable discussion on how Nigeria will be well governed with consideration to the rule of law and justice delivery to all is the only solution to the challenges bedeviling Nigeria.

The Bishop says citizens are losing confidence in the government because it fails to perform its primary constitutional responsibility which is the protection of lives and property of its citizens.

He charges the congregation not to relent in praying for the nation and the leaders, noting that God can divinely intervene in the affairs of this nation.

The Bishop reminded the faithful that Pentecost Sunday commemorates the descent of Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other disciples following the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ, even as he disclosed that the incident marked the beginning of the Christian Church Mission in the world.

Bishop Mamza stated: “The Holy Spirit empowers and liberates us, making us strong Christians, soldiers of Christ Jesus”.

He called on the congregation to always listen and allow the Holy Spirit to direct them, saying that Holy Spirit is their advocate, counsellor as every believer has been empowered to bring unity, salvation, peace and love.

Highlight of the Pentecost Sunday Mass was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on one hundred and forty candidates.
